September Days
The New Novel by Tony Akbar
September Days is set in Los Angeles during the three and half days leading up to and during the 9-11 Terrorist Attacks. Conceived and written to be both a provocative take on the modern celebration of celebrity hood, the novel is a series of interlinked morality tales with the knowledge of the impending tragedy undercutting the sorrows and misadventures of the main characters. The four lead characters include a singer, an actor, a basketball star and a gossip journalist. Their frenetic lives intersect in tangents of personal misfortune. They are all conscious of sin and capable of virtue. None of these characters are presented in simple black and white terms. The LA setting allows an injection of Hollywood set pieces while discussing themes on the dissolution and freedom of modern American life with the backdrop of the attacks. There are 12 chapters in total and an epilogue. The book is in three parts comprising four chapters. Each part represents a day preceding September 11. The epilogue is set on the morning of the tragedy.
